Sauna with Children: A Step-by-Step Guide

To ensure children feel comfortable and don't overheat in the sauna, it's crucial they gradually get used to the high temperatures. Sauna sessions with children are similar to those with adults, but children spend less time in the sauna.

A child who hasn't yet gone through puberty (approximately up to 12 years old) can overheat faster than an adult. They also breathe more rapidly, which can lead to dizziness. Therefore, allow 1 to 2 minutes in the sauna for each year of the child's age. Their previous sauna experience also plays a role.

Before the Sauna Session:

  • Give the child plenty of plain water to drink.
  • Then, shower them with lukewarm water, starting from their feet and moving upwards.

In the Sauna:

  • Seat the child on a towel on a lower bench, where the temperature is lowest.
  • Encourage them to remain calm.
  • Turn the hourglass on the wall and monitor the time carefully.

After the Sauna:

  • The child should take a lukewarm shower, but not too cold. Do not shower their head.
  • This should be followed by rest, during which you should again give the child plenty of water.

Children under 6 years old should complete only one such sauna cycle. From 6 years old, they can comfortably complete up to three cycles if they are accustomed to saunas. It's true that parents initially need to adjust significantly to their children's needs during sauna sessions. However, if they get used to it and enjoy it, they will gradually grow into great sauna partners!

What Types of Saunas are Suitable for Children?

To ensure children feel comfortable in the sauna and aren't stressed by high temperatures, we recommend they visit our infrared sauna, steam sauna, or herbal sauna. These types of saunas, with temperatures up to 70°C, are gentler for children and provide a pleasant, relaxing experience.
